The Company will manage the Group's activities to achieve a realistic and acceptable level of protection for the environment.
The responsibility for environmental protection extends from the Board of London Scottish Bank plc to the newest employee. All employees are expected to co-operate with management in protecting the environment. The Company has established an Environmental Policy Steering Committee which is responsible for monitoring the Company's performance in achieving the standards set out in this policy, which is reviewed at least annually. The Committee meets quarterly to discuss ongoing matters and comprises the following members: Dennis Lee - Director of Human Resources Other members will be appointed on a permanent or ad-hoc basis as required.
The Company will: Regularly review its environmental policy to ensure that it meets current and future legislation, exceeding those values whenever possible; Source and use products with low environmental impact whenever possible; Use recycled paper goods and items made from managed renewable sources; Minimise waste production from its activities; Ensure that all waste is collected by licensed contractors who will dispose of it by the most suitable means; Encourage all staff to recycle waste where practicable; Continue to monitor usage of gas, electricity and water; Raise awareness amongst staff and, where appropriate, other stakeholder groups; Continue to incorporate due consideration of environmental risks in its business activities; Maintain membership of British Environmental Association; Work towards implementation of an Environmental Management System up to BS8555; Use low emission, environmentally friendly vehicles that use unleaded fuels and catalytic converters, ensuring that they are regularly serviced and maintained in accordance with the motor vehicle manufacturers; Discourage unnecessary travel by motor vehicle; Encourage the use of public transport where practicable; Ensure that COSHH is adhered to as necessary via the Company's safety policy and regular risk assessments; Ensure that all computer and office equipment complies with the International EnergyStar office equipment programme; Actively support and encourage contractors, suppliers and other relevant stakeholders to minimise their impact on the environment through the communication of London Scottish Bank's environmental policy via strategic purchasing and contract policies. |
